Addiction Psychiatry
Dr. Varinder Singh Rathore holds dual board certifications from the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN) in the fields of Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. He is a specialized authority in treating patients with co-occurring mental illness and substance abuse issues, often referred to as MICA (Mentally Ill-Chemical Abuse) patients. Formerly, he served as an Assistant Professor in the Division of Substance Abuse at Albert Einstein College of Medicine/Montefiore Hospital. Currently, he is the Chief of Mental Health at North Medical Group, located in Fishkill, NY.
With over ten years of leadership in healthcare programs and community-centric initiatives, Dr. Rathore has played a pivotal role in launching faith-based health fairs in Queens, NY. He strongly advocates for incorporating comprehensive mental health, addiction, and trauma services into primary care outreach programs.
Dr. Rathore previously held the position of Medical Director at Safe Horizon’s Streetwork Project for more than a decade. In this role, he implemented a harm reduction model to provide healthcare to homeless youth grappling with mental health issues and chemical dependencies. He also contributed to Thrive NY's Mental Health Roadmap, focusing on extending mental health services to minority communities. Additionally, he is an active speaker for the National Association on Mental Illness (NAMI) and a contributing member and presenter for the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry (AAAP).
